Pastor's Letter

Greetings Holmes Grove Church,                                                                                                                           September 2024 We had a busy August here at Holmes Grove Church. We collected and filled backpacks and supplies for Gillespie Park Elementary School.  Also, we had a 1-day, 3-night Revival August 4-7, with the theme: Honoring the Past and Embracing the Future, with the theme song, “We are One.”

The summer has ended. Our children have returned to school or started new schools. Women’s Day will be at the end of September, Laity Sunday in October, and Charge Conference will take place on November 6. This means that the nominating committee will be meeting to look at our leadership for the next year.

We are looking forward to our 150th Church Anniversary Celebration Banquet at 3 p.m., Saturday November 9, 2024 at the Barber Park Event Center. The tickets are on sale now. As a church, we are asking our members to pay $150, which will include your banquet ticket. We also have several service projects completed and planned, including a legacy project leading towards our future.

As a Lighthouse Church, we provide a safe space, offering hope and peace for those who are in transition from their disaffiliated churches. Prayerfully, some of you will attend the upcoming trainings to get a better understanding of how we can be more welcoming to those outside of our congregation. I would like to see two families with children by the end of this year. In his letter to the Church at Ephesus, The Apostle Paul has provided instructions for Christian living. One of the most important acts of piety is PRAYER! Whisper a prayer in the morning, noon, and evening to keep your heart in tune.

Please continue praying for our churches and invite the community to attend our worship services, Chair Yoga Tuesday’s, weekly Wednesday night Bible Study via Zoom, and 4th Sunday Children’s Church. Let’s continue our mission: To Make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World, and Vision: “To be an Intergenerational Church that loves serving the Lord together.”

Be Blessed,

Rev. Dr. John P. Henry, Jr.
